A Very English Scandal
Based on the bestselling book of the same name by John Preston, A Very English Scandal is the shocking true story of the first British politician to stand trial for murder. Staring Hugh Grant and Ben Winshaw, my team and I were challenged with bringing this story to the US audience in a compelling way.
Our Strategy
A Very English Scandal as a titillating, outrageous, entertaining, satisfying and even edifying slice of late 1960’s British history. We chose to use Hugh Grant & Ben Whishaw as a way of introducing viewers to the Thorpe affair and connect it with current day parallel themes of power, scandal and how far politicians will go to protect their image. Although tonally, we set this up as a British, Scandalous, Suspenseful, Conspiratorial, Political show, we wanted viewers to see this as an agreeably amusing experience - more palliative than purgative – one where they can sit back and enjoy watching the story unfold.
